From 2026, driving theory tests will include new CPR questions
What’s Changing: CPR in the Theory Test
From early 2026, learner drivers in the UK will be tested on CPR and AED (defibrillator) use as part of their driving theory test. This is part of a major safety update by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency in collaboration with Resuscitation Council UK and Save a Life programmes across the UK.
This is a significant shift, it officially integrates basic emergency response into what learners are expected to study and understand.
What You Can Do Now
New drivers are going to be tested on CPR and AED use, so why not consider taking a Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR course, to build confidence and practical skills.
As well as passing your driving test, you might just save a life, as one of our course participants did a few weeks ago:
“Thank goodness I did the training last week as I was first on the scene to a serious RTC yesterday. A driver ploughed into a stationary car transporter. I was able to stem the bleeding and keep the casualty calm and conscious until the emergency services arrived.
I certainly felt more confident and was able to keep calm and assist the driver.
Thank you so much for the training, so important to know what to do.”
